Candida (Part 1)

I still remember my reaction when found out I had Candida… “What the hell is that?”

I was told it’s a yeast infection that WOMEN tend to get! Needless to say, I was a little confused. “So I have thrush in my belly” I asked the naturopath, her reply “Yes, possibly in your mouth and genitals pretty much everywhere, a very bad case of it too”. A little bit embarrassed and confused I used my good old friend Dr Google and looked up Candida, every picture was women holding their stomach or women’s weekly articles popping up.  After getting past my initial embarrassment I looked up the symptoms, causes and side effects, then reality kicked in.

I’m going to tell you upfront that this isn’t a light topic, nor is it a short one.  I’m going to write about Candida and my experiences in two parts.

Now, I could give you a really technical description of Candida, which is what most health professionals would do OR I could go for the user friendly explanation, which I’m best known for and it will prove I know what I am talking about!

Before I get started on my user friendly explanation, I just want to say upfront that everyone has Candida, yup you read it correctly: everyone has it.  Now, before you go freaking out about how you’re going to go about fixing this, let me tell you it is harmless if the body is healthy, active and emotionally balanced. However, when Candida senses an opportunity to grow in population (usually after stressful situations or a combination of stresses) it turns into Candida Albicans.

Candida Albicans (Candida) is a cunning fungus (form of yeast) that is the devil wreaking havoc inside the human body. It has the uncanny ability to create numerous undesirable symptoms ranging from rashes, emotional distress and weight gain, to serious digestive issues and horrific joint pain.  Candida lives in your gut, happily surviving off the food we eat. It also is a group of microorganisms (really small organisms aka bacteria) that can live in your mouth and/or intestine – potential everywhere.

The army of fungus dominates its surroundings, igniting a war with the immune system. The immune system unfortunately weakens the intestinal wall to help other areas. This allows the evil Candida fungus to penetrate through the stomach (leaky gut) and intestine into the bloodstream, releasing its lethal toxins throughout the body.

The army continues to spread throughout the body, releasing their toxic ammunition that harms organs, body tissue and the already struggling immune system. An extremely powerful toxin (Acetaldehyde) gets produced from yeast cells encourages free radicals (not good) production in the defenceless body. The liver (the bodies’ detoxifier) is unable to break down poisonous toxin due to not being able to function correctly, resulting in the continuation of terrible symptoms eventually illnesses and diseases.

There is quite an impressive list of symptoms for Candida.  The list below is not from Google otherwise the whole world would be self-diagnosing. These are the symptoms I suffered from, be prepared for a good list *sigh*:
